TREND Community and EULAR 2023 Congress

PHILADELPHIA, May 31, 2023 – TREND Community, a digital health analytics company that turns the conversations of rare, chronic, and emerging disease communities into actionable insights, will be participating at the EULAR 2023 Congress from May 31 to June 3, 2023, in Milan, Italy.

TREND’s poster, titled “Using Social Media Conversations to Understand Patient Care: Factors Driving Proactive vs Reactive Management of Gout,” will be presented on Wednesday, May 31 from 15:30-16:30 CEST.

The poster is based on a study that leveraged TREND’s analysis of more than 50,000 posts/comments over 1 year across a private Facebook group and more than 125,000 posts/comments over 11 years based on a reddit group (r/gout). TREND’s proprietary analytics engine, which incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP), was used to improve the understanding of the optimal management strategy for gout. The work aimed to identify gout symptoms associated with proactive and reactive management and contrasted the sentiments of online gout community conversations when describing proactive vs reactive therapeutic experiences.

The authors are Maurice Flurie, Monica Converse, Kristina Davidson, Daniel Hernandez, Helen W. Hernandez, Gary Ho, Brian LaMoreaux, Christopher Parker, E. Robert Wassman, Christopher DeFelice, and Maria Picone.

This work was funded by Horizon Therapeutics and supported by the Gout Support Group of America. Review poster here.

TREND also wrote an abstract titled, “The Mental Health Impact of Sexual Dysfunction in Sjögren’s Disease: A Social Media Approach to Real-World Evidence.” These findings suggest that vaginal dryness and sexual dysfunction in Sjögren’s disease are prevalent and associated with specific negative mental health symptoms.

The authors are Maurice Flurie, Ilias Alevizos, Chiara Baldini, Monica Converse, Kristina Davidson, Brian LaMoreaux, Anthony J. Amatucci, Jessica Massengale, Julia Taylor, Wei Li, Christopher DeFelice, Maria Picone, and E. Robert Wassman.

Finally, on Thursday, June 1 at 8:30 CEST, TREND will host a workshop titled, “The Whole Person: Exploring Sleep and Mental Health Across Rheumatic Diseases.” The team studied almost 900,000 posts and comments over 10 years via multiple subreddits from people living with myasthenia gravis, Sjögren’s disease, gout, lupus, and arthritis and uncovered common challenges regarding sleep and mental health.
